CLOSED – GONE DRIFTING!

The Sky Insurance team recently visited Drift Limits in Bovingdon, Hertfordshire for a staff reward day out; or Drifting Training as we prefer to call it! The reason for our visit was to give our staff a taste of driving some performance cars but also sample the Motorsport of Drifting. The best way to experience Drifting is to try it for yourself, so we did!

Our experience started on a sunny but cool Sunday morning. We arrived at the Drift Limits site office at Bovingdon Airfield and were greeted by the friendly team of instructors. A leisurely but professional briefing of the days itinerary followed which we digested over cups of tea, coffee and Mars bars. The breakfast of champions! Continue reading →

Team Sky Insurance / Driftworks BDC Round 1 Report

After what seemed like an off season which would never come to an end, the British Drift Championship (BDC) finally kicked back into gear with Round 1 last weekend at the Lydden Hill circuit in Kent.

Driftworks Phil Morrison was entered into the Super Pro category in the Team Sky Insurance / Driftworks Nissan Skyline. This well known car has been in the Driftworks stable for around eight years and has certainly seen it’s fair share of action!

Lauren’s GT86 Story – Pt 3

Forza Horizon Team Sky Insurance/Driftworks S15

As a lot of people move towards newer chassis in their build, we felt like doing something a little different. We came across an old ASCAR for sale on our own Driftworks forum. This is basically a UK NASCAR from a series that used to run at Rockingham. The cars have some incredible parts fitted. Not least an LS V8 with a dry sump, a dog engagement gearbox, and a Winters drop gear live axle (this allows you to change final drive ratios in 5 minutes)

I’d built a 20v Toyota Corolla a couple of years ago, and never quite finished it. I had to sell it on to fund real life (property purchase) but when it came back up for sale we knew that a combination of an ASCAR and an AE86 (which uses a live axle) would be hilarious.

Sky Insurance / Driftworks Nissan Skyline R32 updated and overhauled!

For the 2013 season, the Sky Insurance / Driftworks Skyline R32 has undergone some major changes. The R32 has always been the ‘second car’ in the Driftworks stable and was always over shadowed by the ground breaking Nissan S15. With the S15 now sold, and a new project being built, the R32 has been given some love, and doesn’t it look the part!

Beauty isn’t just skin deep and the’32 now runs a replacement Toyota 1JZ and Syvecs ECU as well as a few tricky new suspension tweaks to make sure it’ll qualify for competitions next season.

The engine was mapped and produced good and safe power figures of 560BHP and 555ft/lbs torque at 1.6 bar of boost. The roll cage is a work of art and also boasts Nascar door bars between the roll cage and the seats for added safely and rigidity.

The End of an Era – Driftworks Nissan S15 sponsored by Sky Insurance

Driftworks has sold their Nissan S15. This car was a game changer, it set the Drift Car precedent across the UK & Europe when it was build and debuted at Silverstone way back in 2008. Built by Garage D and Driftworks the DW S15 combined a Nissan chassis with a legendary Toyota 2JZ engine. The Driftworks S15 is one of the best set up and most competitive drift cars in the world, and it has seen it’s way to the winners podium many times.
