CLOSED – GONE DRIFTING!
The Sky Insurance team recently visited Drift Limits in Bovingdon, Hertfordshire for a staff reward day out; or Drifting Training as we prefer to call it! The reason for our visit was to give our staff a taste of driving some performance cars but also sample the Motorsport of Drifting. The best way to experience Drifting is to try it for yourself, so we did!
Our experience started on a sunny but cool Sunday morning. We arrived at the Drift Limits site office at Bovingdon Airfield and were greeted by the friendly team of instructors. A leisurely but professional briefing of the days itinerary followed which we digested over cups of tea, coffee and Mars bars. The breakfast of champions! Continue reading

Team Sky Insurance / Driftworks BDC Round 1 Report
After what seemed like an off season which would never come to an end, the British Drift Championship (BDC) finally kicked back into gear with Round 1 last weekend at the Lydden Hill circuit in Kent.
Driftworks Phil Morrison was entered into the Super Pro category in the Team Sky Insurance / Driftworks Nissan Skyline. This well known car has been in the Driftworks stable for around eight years and has certainly seen it’s fair share of action!

Lauren’s GT86 Story – Pt 3
Another month or so into ownership and Lauren’s stunning GT86 has seen it’s first trackday at the challenging but fun Anglesey circuit in North Wales.

Lauren’s GT86 Story – Pt 2
Since writing this blog article, Lauren has racked up the run in mileage of 1000 miles. We await the next instalment!
Yay, I’ve had the car a week and now have 875 odd miles on the odometer! I will have run it in by Monday evening. I honestly can’t wait to open it up properly.
I’ve been reasonably cautious not exceeding 4K all that much overall. The thing is of course that it really wants to go when you get to about 5K, so it’s been quite a challenge to get out of the throttle. I’ve been careful to vary speed and only really used the cruise control on a specs 40mph limit that goes on for 6 miles or so. I have been loving the heated seats, so glad I’ve got that option. Nickson Motorsport in Surrey have had the Driftworks AE86 shell for all of two weeks, and there’s been some serious work done.
Nick is a perfectionist when it comes to safety, and he know’s exactly what sort of abuse Phil Morrison is likely to throw at this car. His attention to detail is essential in a shell designed in the 80′s that will have around four times the power it was ever supposed to have.

From Concept Car To Purchase – Lauren’s GT86 Story
Sky Insurance customer Lauren has followed the Toyota GT86 from design to concept car, from production car to the official launch and from test drive to purchase. As it stands, (January 2013) Lauren is expecting delivery of her dream GT86 in the next few days!
Lauren has been a Sky Insurance customer for a number of years now and we have closely followed her car progress. Most recently, we have insured Lauren’s Toyota Corolla Trueno AE86 and Renault Sport Clio 172. Lauren is hands on, in how she drives the car, her love of trackdays (check out www.trackdayqueen.com) and car maintenance.

As a lot of people move towards newer chassis in their build, we felt like doing something a little different. We came across an old ASCAR for sale on our own Driftworks forum. This is basically a UK NASCAR from a series that used to run at Rockingham. The cars have some incredible parts fitted. Not least an LS V8 with a dry sump, a dog engagement gearbox, and a Winters drop gear live axle (this allows you to change final drive ratios in 5 minutes)
I’d built a 20v Toyota Corolla a couple of years ago, and never quite finished it. I had to sell it on to fund real life (property purchase) but when it came back up for sale we knew that a combination of an ASCAR and an AE86 (which uses a live axle) would be hilarious.
