insurelearnerdriver.co.uk can resolve the insurance complications that arise due to not having a full licence when using someone else's car whilst learning to drive and being added to their policy. This policy is issued in the name of the learner driver and will not affect the No Claims Bonus of the car owner in the event of a claim. You can purchase temporary learner driver insurance cover instantly online. There is also cover provided for two qualified drivers for FREE (subject to terms on the website). Available for Car Groups 1 - 28 and for car values of up to £20,000. The scheme cannot insure everybody under this policy and has certain exclusions which are shown in the  Acceptance Criteria.

Riot Damage Claims - Early Notification

Insurers typically include within their Claims Notification Clause to the policy a requirement for any claim for riot and/or civil commotion to be notified to Insurers immediately with full supporting documentation. This needs to be received within seven days of the incident occurring specifically to prevent a recovery action being turned down by the police authority on the basis that the action is time barred. Insurers are entitled to recover their outlays under the principle of subrogation. The insurers only have 14 days to log all affected properties with the appropriate authorities and therefore the timescales are extremely tight.

For clarity, riot is now defined under the Public Order Act 1986, and the responsibility of the Local Authority is clarified in the Riot Damages Act 1886.

Public Order Act 1986

"Where 12 or more persons who are present together use or threaten unlawful violence for common purpose the conduct of them (taken together) is such as would cause a person of reasonable firmness present at the scene to fear for his personal safety, each of the persons using unlawful violence for the common purpose is guilty of riot."

Riot Damages Act 1886 "The local police authority has a legal responsibility to reimburse anyone sustaining damage to property as the result of riot under the Riot Damages act 1886. Any claim under the Act must be made in writing and received by the local police authority within 14 days of the Alleged incident.

If you have been affected by the recent disturbances, please report this directly to the appropriate Insurer Claims Line as soon as possible.

British Mods at the Ace Café

6th November 2010

There was a great turn out and variety of cars for the ‘British Mods’ meet held on the evening of the 6thNovember at the world famous Ace Café in North West London.   Luke and Ollie from Sky Insurance arrived to the sound of gunfire.. or was it fireworks.. actually on closer inspection it was the sound of anti-lag from Stuart Chambers stunning Turbo converted Honda S2000.  Watch this space for more details of this stunning S2000.

British Mods Ace Cafe 1 British Mods
British Mods Meet

British Mods ( www.britishmods.com ) is a very active car club with a variety of different members and cars.  A good selection of these were on display at the Ace Café.  Ollie, Luke and guest judge Jay were on hand to pick out winning cars for the following categories: best car of the night, best ICE, best exterior, best interior and best engine bay.   Although the members did not know their cars were being assessed all were happy to walk and talk the judges around their cars and answer all the questions asked.  Special mention to Lee with his fantastic Supercharged Fiesta ST, 310 BHP and more boost to come, after a clutch and flywheel upgrade!

Another thanks also to Jay for his superb judging skills, input and advice on the evening and a final thanks to Marie and Stuart from British Mods for all their help and organisation.  It was a good night and a very friendly atmosphere.

Glenn Osborne – October 2010 Tunnel Run Competition Winner

As promised we would like to share some pictures of our Miss Banzai October 2010 Tunnel run ‘ Best Turned Out Car Of The Night’ .  Owner Glenn Osborne describes his car in his own words below.  We hope you like the pictures, we certainly liked the car! Well done again to Glenn.

This is my 1994 Civic SiRImport, and I am a Sky Insurance policy holder! This is my third Honda Civic that I have owned in the last 4 years, and what can I say,  I love them! I have had this import from standard and have tried to look after it and keep it a clean example. I was after a different look to my EG Civic, clean and simple. So I had a set of retro SSR (SpeedStarRacing) Mk1's wheels imported from Japan. I was aware that they did not fit my car, so I bought Integra hubs and swing arms to convert my Civic to the correct stud pattern, along with bigger Integra brakes. MeisterR Superlow suspension let me achieve my ride height, along with low control arms and a rear tie bar; all to help with the handling.  Custom stainless steel exhaust system, including handmade polished back box with custom noted exhaust sound for a subtle rasp. I cleaned up the windscreen by using just one long wiper blade, tucked down tight almost under to bonnet and also I had a blue tinted windscreen fitted which really create a fresh look. I stripped the rear interior out and painted the bare metal of it a metallic purple/blue, and before I forget also one of my favourite changes is my BRIDE drivers seat; Japans RollsRoyce of seats.

My future plans are for performance, a turbo setup by a well known garage is what I would like for the future (As long as my Insurer can offer me a good price).  :)

Info;

Wheels;  Front 7" -5 offset (With a 15mm spacer)
              Rear 8" + 11 offset

Engine; B16A JDM 1.6 Engine 174.Bhp   Standard

Thanks again for choosing me Ollie! Awesome.

Cheers,

Glenn

22nd October 2010

MissBanzai Tunnel Run – Saturday 16thOctober 2010

Another hugely successful tunnel run organised by the ever-popular MissBanzai team, the biggest one yet by far with well over 400 Japanese cars in attendance! This event has gradually become bigger and bigger and has now outgrown the Essex Arena starting venue.  For the next run the MissBanzai organisers are looking for a privately owned area in or around London with enough room for 500+ cars - answers on a postcard please!

The tunnel runs are organised in aid of charity, this time it was the turn of the London Air Ambulance who kindly sent down two cars to represent them.  The total raised so far as of 22nd October is an impressive £2741.61; this total is set to rise sharply due to some very generous company donations being offered.

Our hearty congratulations go to Sky Insurance customer Glenn Osborne and his very tastefully modified 1995 Honda Civic, pictures to follow shortly, Glenn was awarded our prize for winning the ‘best turned out car of the night’ competition and graciously accepted a bottle of Champagne and a box of chocolates, he seemed very pleased and surprised at the same time!

Car Clubs, Traders, Promotional Girls and Petrol Heads were out in force which led to an action packed day and a variety of activities to watch and compete in.

Miss Banzai Tunnel Run - 13th March 2010

Another fantastically organised Miss Banzai Tunnel Run took place on the Saturday and continued into the small hours on Sunday morning. The Essex Arena saw a record amount of all sorts of Japanese cars in attendance, everything for standard Toyota Yaris’s to highly modified Mazda RX8’s.

The Miss Banzai team busied themselves with the numbering of cars, registration of participants, distribution of maps and general organisation until the first groups started to leave the venue to commence the tunnel run at around 10.30pm. Although hard to judge due the lack of lighting, Scott Allen’s fantastic wide arched Mkiv Supra stood out as easily the ‘Best Presented Car’ of the evening,

Runner up prize for the best presented car went to another wide archer, a stunning Skyline R32 owned by a very pleased Richard Argyle with his wife Caroline who had travelled up in convoy with an excellent turn out from the Hampshire Jap Car Club membership.

Scott being presented with his 1st prize with Ollie From Sky Insurance,
Lisa (BoBRabbit) & Lou Lou from Miss Banzai; and of course the Supra:

Everyone participating will of course have their own story to tell and their own highlights but for Ollie and Luke from Sky Insurance the highlights included a rather bemused taxi driver who was stuck in the middle of a lot of excited tunnel runners in the middle of the Tooley Street tunnels as well as watching and hearing 250+ modified Japanese cars buzzing around the streets and tunnels of London.

Thank you to everyone who attended, thank you to the Miss Banzai team for letting us tag along and more importantly, congratulations on raising a huge amount for charity!

Here is a final word from The Miss Banzai organisers:

Tunnel Run 2 - 10th October 2009
The second Miss Banzai London Tunnel run took place 10th October 2009.  The meeting point was the Essex Arena and by 9pm the arena was buzzing with Japanese cars.

Sky Insurance were offering prizes for the Best Car of the night and Runner-Up.

Judging cars is always fun but also a difficult job; especially in dim light and with car numbers in such high volumes.  First prize went to an absolutely stunning and recently rebuilt Skyline R33 (Tommy Kaira limited edition), there can be no argument that this car was the best at the Essex Arena... it is of a show winning pedigree and is stamped Tommy Kaira 0001 and; according to the owner it was Tommy's very own car! The Runner-up prize was a lot harder to choose and went to a white and subtly modified S15 that stood out nicely with its immaculate white paintwork, wheels and all over look.

1st prize and congratulations goes to Steve Mounter:

**Thanks to Ant http://www.antonybaker.com for guiding me to the venue and also for the event photos.

Thank you to Lou Lou, Lisa and the rest of the Miss Banzai team for their excellent work in the build up to the event and the administration on the night. Thanks and well done also to Ben (EssexGT4) for his hard work. I don't think people realise the planning and behind the scenes work that goes into an event like this but also the stress, lack of sleep etc etc

The tunnel run was a huge success and was enjoyed by all in attendance.  At the last count the amount raised for charity was: £1668

This year’s annual Japanese Auto Extravaganza (JAE) was held on the 11th - 13th September 2009 at a new venue; Wicksteed Park in Northamptonshire.

Sky Insurance’s affiliated car clubs were out in force and on good form, this year’s show seemed to have been taken over by Toyota clubs, the MR2 clubs and Celica Club UK in particular had a very large turn out of member’s cars. This is the BIG show for the majority of Japanese car clubs in the UK, it really does brings the clubs and members together. Clubs and their members travel from far and wide to attend, some coming from as far a field as the very northern reaches of Scotland and also some from the Netherlands!

The facilities provided by Wicksteed Park were deemed as way above average, onsite catering was great, showers and toilets were clean, which makes a nice change for car show regulars. The show was blessed with good weather, it was blisteringly hot on the Saturday and the cars displayed looking stunning in a lovely venue in the sunshine.

Congratulations to the following show winners:

Bungee Run - HJSCC
Gladiator Joust Krazie Kruizerz
Endurance Competition - GTO UK
Eating Competition - Celica Club
370Z Car Pull - NPOC
5-a-side Football - Nippon Squad
Tug of War - NPOC Bears
Time Attack Go-kart Challenge - Outlaw Jap Club

A fantastic time was had by all, roll on JAE 2010!
